At Home – ground beetles are inside the nest Housemates -Maggots and flies
Acrylic on canvas, polymer clay, iridescent acrylic ink, wire, paper

We hardly notice the common housefly and the ground beetle who cohabit with us. Such interesting housemates. The fly -musca domestica- has been around for 66 million years since the Cenozoic period. It breaks down and recycles organic matter, mostly carnivorous but also feasts on rotten fruits and vegetables. The ground beetle-coleoptera carabidae-is also a carnivore feeding on insect pests, slugs, worms, aphids, ear whigs, cutworms. Beetles are particularly appreciated by gardeners. Both are interesting and beautiful if you take the time to look closely at them.
